Psychosexual Therapy

Linda specialises in helping clients with relationship and sexual problems by often using a combination of Psychosexual therapy, Hypnotherapy and Counselling.

What is Psychosexual therapy?

Psychosexual therapy is a type of Sex therapy, known as PST. It is a treatment by a qualified practitioner which addresses a sexual dysfunction or emotional block within a relationship or an individual.

PST has a proven success rate and takes referrals from GPs as well as individuals to look at physiological and psychological problems which are causing distress. Any physical cause such as medication, alcohol, stress or illness will also be considered.

PST is a behavioural programme which openly explores and discusses the sexual problem and looks at emotional blocks for the couple or individual.

There are five distinctive stages of arousal which are a combination of the emotional and physical communication between a couple;

desire excitement plateau orgasm resolution

Treatment

After exploring the history of the problem, PST uses a behavioural approach, where physiological or emotional difficulties are sensitively and skilfully managed. Clients are set tasks to do in the privacy of their own home as they work through the five stages of arousal which they then feedback during the therapy sessions, which also helps to improve communication.

Naturally the service is treated with the upmost confidentiality and integrity which comes from Linda’s extensive training and experience. This is a list of common problems people seek psychosexual therapy for:

Anorgasmia (unable to orgasm)
Dyspareunia (Painful intercourse)
Erectile Dysfunction
Loss of Desire (Libido)
Premature Ejaculation (PE)
Retarded Ejaculation (RE)
Sexual Addiction
Vaginismus

This is just a brief rundown of the most common problems but you may have an issue you need to discuss not mentioned. Linda will help you to overcome your difficulty by talking through everything and formulating a strategy to help you through your problem.

Amethyst Therapy is run to a strict code of ethics and guidelines set out by COSRT – The College of Sexual & Relationship Therapists, formerly known as the British Association for Sexual & Relationship Therapy - BASRT.
